Flag

Confederate Flag Issue in the Southern States This is just a little rant about the issue of the confederate flag. A lot, okay most, of the black people in America claim that the confederate flag should not be displayed by any state. For instance, in South Carolina, the confederate flag is displayed under the state flag. In Georgia, the confederate flag is a part of the state flag itself.

Most people say that it should not be displayed because it's a racist symbol, since it was the flag of the Confederacy, which supported slavery during the War Between the States. I personally think that they need to get over it. Just because they see it as a racist symbol doesn't mean that everyone does. Most people that I know see it as a symbol of the fact that we live in the south and that the war and the flag is a part of our past. It symbolizes not only what black people went through, but also what everyone else went through and the people that died during the war. A good way to look at the Confederate flag is to realize that it shows how far we've come as a society; from having blacks as slaves to giving them freedom. Also, regardless of how painful people today think slavery was, they weren't a part of it, so they shouldn't have any need to fool with the subject of the confederate flag, unless they're just out to piss off a lot of people by not only taking away a part of the tradition of the South (to hang the flag), but also by calling those people racist, when maybe they aren't. Not all people that support the flag are racist.

Another point that I'd like to make, which is really why I decided to make this rant, is that a lot of blacks think that 'the confederate flag is a stigma that prevents them from moving up in life as a people.' While that is not a direct quote, I heard a black guy on the news just about say that when he and many others were protesting the flag at the Georgia State Capitol. He made that statement about not being able to move up in life as a people just because of a flag, and then at the bottom of the screen it showed his name and then it said "Student of Emory University." Okay, um, I promised myself I wouldn't scream, but YOU MADE IT TO EMORY!!! WHAT ELSE DO YOU WANT, A FRIGGIN' YACHT?!!...phewf.

Alright, there's one last point I'd like to make. We have this thing in the U.S. known as affirmative action. This means that companies have to hire a certain percentage of each race so that they won't look prejudist. Do you even know how wrong that is? That means that someone more qualified for a job than someone else can't get hired because they aren't the right color. Many people I know have had this happen to them. People shouldn't be hired because of their race, but because of their qualifications. If you see that hardly any blacks get hired anywhere, then maybe they should just try harder until they're actually qualified instead of screaming "Racism! I'm suing!!" and taking the easy way out.

Just the fact that affirmative action even exists, it shows that our nation hasn't improved, just flipped around the other way. Now, whites are often turned down from jobs because of their race. This is wrong. I think that to make everybody equal, it should be illegal to sue because of "discrimination" because everyone discriminates against other people, or it's at least damned hard not to. It should also be illegal for the government to feel that they should cater to people like Jesse Jackson and the NAACP because these people don't realize that they have nothing to fight for anymore. Blacks gained their civil rights a long time ago, now all they have to do is realize that everyone else has the same problems they do.
